The deadline for entering Works for the Photography Contest ends by the end of October
End of October is the deadline for the presentation of the works to enter the Photography Contest "Olhares sobre a Bairrada" organized by the Comissão Vitivinícola da Bairrada (CVB).
This event aims at gathering a set of photos on the Bairrada Region. These photos will eventually appear on the CVB webpage, or any other means of promotion or divulgation of the Bairrada Region.
Contest rules are available here.
Grape Harvesting in Bairrada
It is now possible to make a first estimate of the 2011 grape harvesting in the Bairrada Region as the picking up of the red grapes still in the vineyards is about to finish.
This year we can refer the excellent sanitary state of the grapes, an overall earlier maturation in comparison to what has happened in previous years (about two weeks), and a relatively abundant quantity (supposed to surpass the average quantity in previous years).
We can for sure say this was a very good year and we have high expectations regarding the harvest that has just finished.
Creation of the new Comissão Vitivinícola da Bairrada
The new certification entity has already been constituted. The new Conselho Geral (General Council) and the President of the Comissão Vitivinícola da Bairrada (CVB) have still to be elected.
The public deed for the new certification entity was signed on the last 30th August.
The next step is the appointment of the 12 member Conselho Geral. Six representatives of the production area and 6 from the commercial field.
The Direction of the CVB is constituted by a president and two board members, one representing the production and another the commercialization sector.
With the creation of this new entity, new statutes also come into force. The CVB will have as its main objective to control of the production, commercialization and certification of the wine products with right to Denominação de Origem Protegida (DOP Bairrada) e a Indicação Geográfica Protegida (IGP Beira Atlântico).
The Conselho Geral, on its turn, will represent in an exclusive and equal way the professional interests of the production, commercialization and certification of the wine products with right to DOP and IGP.
