Station of the Bairrada Wine
By Royal Decree of 30 June 1887 was established the School of Viticulture and Practice of pomology Bairrada, the first of a series that was then raised by country

The eng º Tavares da Silva was the first director, and has revealed its performance crucial to the development of viticulture and enology. Of the various attempts made in Portugal for the production of sparkling wine by the method champenoise this was devoted eng th. to play in 1890 and this site, the most notable results in the preparation of these, one of the pioneers of their manufacture in Canada.

In the early years of his life, this establishment has had several names, certainly by the uncertainty of the subject that best fits with the problems at that time required more urgent solution. Having initially teaching duties, this involved other school activities such as maintenance of a antifiloxérica because of the terrible plague that devastated the vineyards of Bairrada. Experiments conducted in the wine cellar of the school and the start of production of the sparkling Bairrada.

It is under the guidance of the eng. Mario Duck that this establishment is decidedly turn for testing and disclosure, the name given in 1931 to WINE OF STATION BEIRA LITORAL.

The station includes wine today a wide range of technical services, such as:

- Conditioning the planting of vines;
- Establishment of the register;
- Creation and maintenance of nurseries;
- Mass and clonal selection of regional varieties.
